Paul Dikker and Willem Harbers initiate joint projects; they often exhibit their work as a duo. Their paintings and sculptures have much in common. They are monumental in form and color, made with great precision and attention to detail. At the intersection of figurative and abstract their work invites the viewer to make stories.

Paul Dikker

Paul Dikker is celebrating his 30th anniversary as a painter. Trained at the Rijks Academy and the University of Amsterdam (political science, cum laude), he has been working in recent years in the Netherlands and in Norway. There he exhibited among others in the Oslo Museum. A major Norwegian publishing house published a book by him. One of his paintings stood on the shortlist of five finest Dutch works of the past fifty years in 2006. In his paintings, he transforms nature and creates a private and free universe, full of beauty and no fixed meanings. With his work he seeks adventure and tries to penetrate deeper into the essence of life, the beauty, and of life itself in all its silent incomprehensibility. He regularly writes articles about art, art policy and cultural enterprise, and he is member of various boards. His work is held in many collections at home and abroad.

Willem Harbers

After graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Willem went to study and work in the Italian Carrara in 1994. Here he met artists from around the world. He stayed for a year and returns periodically to his “second home”. The white marble, pure nature from the heart of the Apuan mountains, has since been a part of his work. After about twenty years, the small works and large installations function as instruments and laboratories for his research.

“Harbers’ sculptures are full of duality. With there technical appearance, the machine-installations conjure up associations of dynamics, but also that of stagnation. Brute force and masculine potency opposite soft, virgin white forms. It is captivating art, because it is versatile and therefore rich in contrasts.” “Labogibile”  is one of my favourite installations, due to the beautiful coating it resembles a pearl necklace and simultaneously, when looking longer, you can feel the energy stream through the pipes”…..
