Dresden, July 1 till September 25 2016
Every year the OSTRALE – international exhibition of contemporary arts – is unifying young emerging artists with international established artists, whom express themselves in all kinds of artistical genres over an exhibition area of more than 20,000 sq. metres. Artists from all over the world will deal with the issue of the 10th edition of the exhibition addressed to „error: X“.
OSTRALE´O16 is presenting itself under the theme error: X, a term, which we encounter in digital era, maybe more often than we like. The huge amount of information and opinions has grown together to a complex data jungle, which the next generation, armed with selfie sticks, while the home front [Heimatfront] happily posts pictures of their dinner. But there is also a reason for hope. The ubiquity of global networking is more directly than ever before. There is the idea of global togetherness, and the net is the tool, with which we can throw a stick into the spokes of the mill wheels of our time.
Determining quality characteristics and errors in art, is taken care by many man equally. It is the right time to analyse errors, to make a kind of „controlling“ – in the arts and at the arts. Only one question remains – does the error has a certain kind of attractiveness to aspects of humanity, heart and courage. To adress the subject appropriately one could quote Savielly Tartakower: „Are only strong players allowed and able to make mistakes?” Is this freely transferable to our global world?
Looking outwards offers us the chance to bring own viewpoints and integrate them in an open discourse. From our point of view, creativity arises from the power of cultural identity, the global exchange, free open urban spaces, and empirical games in the arts. It’s our intention to challenge and develop this, and one of our main objectivities is to view and present young contemporary art close to the established one. An international and open invitation and application process based on two steps creats the exhibition with the overall spirit of the theme error: X in mind.
